What is the Gospel?

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son,

that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life."

- John 3:16, ESV

God’s Message of Hope

God’s Purpose… Man was created to honor and serve Him.
For His glory in wisdom and love, the eternal God created time, the world, and everything else in creation. Since God created all things, He is worthy of being praised and honored by everything in creation.

  • Revelation 4:11 - “Worthy are You, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things, and by Your will, they existed and were created."

Man’s Problem… Sin.

Man chose to sin and rebel against the perfectly holy God, rather than love and serve Him. If a man sins even once, he has personally betrayed God, and therefore must be separated from God eternally. To be acceptable to God, a man must be as perfect and holy as God is. But, because man is a sinner, all his good works are tainted with sin and therefore do not make him acceptable in God’s sight.

  • Matthew 5:48 - "You, therefore, must be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect."

  • Romans 3:23 - “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God".

  • James 2:10 - "For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it."

  • Ephesians 2:8-9 - "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast."

Sin’s Penalty… Eternal Death.

Sin breaks the relationship between God and man, earning God's wrath and the just sentence of death. We all deserve God’s wrath to be poured out on us because we have broken His perfect law.

  • Romans 6:23 - “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

  • Hebrews 9:27 - "And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment."

  • 2 Corinthians 5:10 - "For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil."

  • John 8:24 - "'I told you that you would die in your sins, for unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.'"

Jesus Christ’s Payment… He was our Sinless Substitute.

This is the good news! God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, who lived a perfectly sinless life. He died in our place on the cross, enduring the wrath of God we deserved. He was buried in a tomb and arose from the dead three days later. Because Jesus was victorious over sin and death, we can be as well through Him, if we believe in His finished work on our behalf. It is a great exchange; Jesus took our sin and gave us His perfect righteousness instead. Salvation is a completely free gift that God offers to everyone. God does not accept good works as a payment for our sin or to make us acceptable to Him.

  • Romans 5:8 - “But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by His blood, much more shall we be saved by Him from the wrath of God."

  • Ephesians 2:8 - "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God."

Our Pardon…Turn and Trust.

To receive pardon of our sin and have a relationship with God, we must turn away from our sins, turn to follow Jesus Christ, and trust in Him as our Lord and Savior alone.

  • John 14:6 - “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.'”

  • Acts 4:12 - "And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

  • Acts 3:19 - "Repent, therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out."

  • 1 John 5:12 - "Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life."

  • Romans 5:1 - "Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."

God’s Promise… Eternal Life.

If we believe that Jesus lived, died, and rose again in our place for the forgiveness of our sins, we will have His eternal life now and forever. We will know Him in a personal relationship now and forever.

  • John 5:24 - “Whoever hears My word and believes Him Who sent Me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.”

  • John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

  • John 17:3 – “And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.”
